Seasonal Steps: Great Running Events For Women All Year Long

BOULDER, CO -- Girl Power! POW! We’ve pulled together list of great running events for women who love to run all year long. Check out our picks, some “girls only” and some co-mixed events that range from beginner to ultra-marathoner.

Winter – Sweetheart Dash

Lace up and lock lips, the 6th annual Sweetheart 5k and 10k team run will take place in Fruita, CO on February 9, 2013. Find your valentine at the starting line in this mountain town dash; the first 400 registrants will be treated to custom Loki brand race gloves and the event culminates in a health expo featuring vendors promoting wellness programs.

Cost is $20 for 5k participants $25 for 10K participants. Pre-register online at www.fruita.org.

Spring – Mother’s Day 5K

Mothers and daughters take note! The Mothers Day 5K race supporting the HERA Foundation, a non-profit organization, is scheduled for May 12, 2013, at 9 AM at Denver’s City Park, 3200 East 23rd Avenue. Skip the mother’s day brunch crowds for a fun run with everyone.

The HERA Foundation mission to eliminate ovarian cancer by raising funds for research and awareness with science and community grants; a portion of the proceeds from this fun run will support the HERA Foundation.

Cost is $30 individual and $90 for family until April 15th. As a bonus, your race entry includes a free pass for admission to the Denver Zoo.

Summer – 50-Mile Ultra Marathon

For the ultra marathon mammas, a 50-mile or 50K run will be held in support of the victims of the Aurora Theater tragedy. The ultra marathon will be held in Roxborough State Park, a short drive from Denver and surrounding communities.  According to the race description, participants track through course consisting of a, “10 mile loop trail, with a mix of technical trail and graded dirt track. Runners will be challenged with 1000 foot elevation gain in the first 5 miles, then will be rewarded with some stunning views of Roxborough park.”

100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Colorado Office for Victims Assistance and benefits those affected by the shootings.

Fall – Muddy 5K

“Run, walk, climb, crawl—you will experience it all,” according to the Dirty Girl Mud Run website. For girls wanting some obstacle challenges, the 5K dash treats participants to barriers such as hanging tire barriers, cargo net climbs and mud hill ascents and descents. Team play is encouraged; so call your best gal pals for a fun and safe event, crazy costumes, in support of a good cause. The Dirty Girl Mud Run is a partner to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and money raised from these national events supports the organization.

The Dirty Girl Mud Run will be held on Sept. 14, 2013 and you can register online for this local event at imATHLETE.com. Stay tuned to their Facebook page for venue information.
